Located in Central Arizona, the Fossil Creek Allotment is a true working ranch, offering adequate summer and winter grazing capable of growing quality beef cattle. The ranch is conveniently accessed from SR 260 with multiple access points along the highway, just east of Camp Verde. Ranging in elevation from 2600’ at the Verde River to 6,000’ just below the Mogollon Rim, the rangeland consists of an excellent diversity of grasslands and winter browse. Historically, precipitation has averaged 12” at the lower elevation to 23” in the higher, summer country.
Improvements include an extensive set of working and shipping pens at Mud Tanks, along SR 260, that are well designed and constructed; with an adjacent cabin. The pens include a new, Arrowquip chute, certified scale, and shipping chute. The six rotational pastures include well placed, functional branding pens that work towards a holding pasture adjacent to the shipping pens. Water consists of three live springs and multiple dirt tanks scattered throughout the pastures. In addition, there is one well and concrete drinker located at a set of steel pipe pens on Fossil Creek Road. In 2021, the Backbone Fire burned the southern end of the ranch which opened up grasslands and created range restoration.
The Fossil Creek Allotment’s location near I-17 allows for convenient access and operation. The topography creates fantastic views of Fossil Creek, the Verde River and the majestic Mogollon Rim. The elevation provides for mild seasons and excellent forage.
